I mean, I loved that car for a lot of reasons
, but none of the things I actually do get any traction.
Life is a mystery.

My two recent unnecessary car shopping articles have hit 2.4k and 12.6k, no idea why.

Man, it’s so weird because I’m having more and more trouble finding Jalopnik articles in search results. Aaron Brown really did a lot in terms of keeping these sites high up in the results. Furthermore, the number of ads they’ve slapped on the front page isn’t good for its ranking, but the herbs pushed it through despite EVERYONE’s warnings to avoid that 1996-ass ad strategy. Via the Daily Beast [pardon the wacky quote format as Kinja on Firefox no longer brings up the format bar for comments, grr] :
“ And while the rest of digital media obsess over diversifying revenue through avenues like subscriptions, partnerships, e-commerce, and events, Spanfeller has doubled down on programmatic display ads, the targeted advertisements served to users on many digital media sites.
In his first all-hands meeting, he claimed that programmatic display ads were going to make a huge comeback. On mobile devices, many G/O sites now have a targeted ad after nearly every two paragraphs, despite warnings from at least one staffer that the practice was frowned upon by online advertising groups. The practice may put the company in violation of the Coalition for Better Ads standards for online advertisements, potentially causing issues with the site’s ad performance in Google’s browser.”

Source, since I can’t format in a link, either:

It sure seems like the staffer(s) who pointed that out were right now! The herb should be ashamed, but I don’t think herbs are capable of feeling shame.
But I digress—whenever I try to find something cool I’ve done, sometimes it’s on the second page or worse. Sometimes I give up and type in “Stef Schrader” into the address bar or “site:jalopnik.com” to specify this domain.
Formerly, just putting [thing you want to find] plus “Jalopnik” in the search bar was enough to find old articles since Jalopnik’s such a unique word. Now that brings up a lot of other sites that cite Jalopnik for me
ahead of actual
Jalopnik for me
. :(
(Fun aside: I typically had to “site:thedrive.com” in the search bar for The Drive’s related links since “The Drive” is a combination of common words, but now it’s showing up higher and higher in results. Yay!
This makes my life much easier and I’m here for it.)
The internet algorithms work in mysterious ways, so perhaps Oppositelock’s getting that sweet, sweet upper placement because it doesn’t have those intrusive programmatic
a
ds ruining the place.

Sometimes a oppo article gets picked up on the news feeds that show up on people’s cell phones. That’s what happened to me
a little while ago
because I said I hate old pre-emissions diesels...
which resulted in many posters calling me a gay female.... and over 59,000 views.

Very interesting. Perhaps that’s why the “popular articles” bar gets SOOOOO much more traffic than the rest of the site, which tends to leave them staying in the bar for very long periods of time. This week, it really liked BMWs.
You’ve got to wonder what those who have never heard of Oppo thought of random Hour Rules popping up in google searches

To wit: I just noticed my DeLorean video from 2018 (!) was back on the front page. I’ll take it and it solves the mystery of why I was getting comments on it again, but huh.

The FP ads have made the site completely unusable on mobile. I don’t bother anymore. It just crashes and tries to reload. I can’t even read a Torch article.

Who the hell cares about E60s, besides us weirdos? There can’t be that many of us.
